Doris's pictures are more theatrical than her sister Anna's. This one was probably exhibited at her one-woman show at the Fine Art Society Theatre and Other Paintings in 1949, which The Scotsman reviewed: 'Occasionally, Miss Zinkeisen lets herself go, and the paint is laid on in rhythmical sweeps giving some of her Spanish dancers a very flowing movement.' A later reviewer in 1964, of The Bristol Evening Post, remarked that 'Her chiaroscuro is not exploration of natural light and shade, but, like theatre floods and spots, seems deliberately placed at the urging of a director.'
