In 1975 Arnold was a founder member of the Brotherhood of Ruralists in Somerset, with his wife and the Ovendens, Peter Blake and David Inshaw. The name was suggested by Laurie Lee. Their heroes were Samuel Palmer and Stanley Spencer, the Pre-Raphaelites and also the poets John Clare and Thomas Hardy.
There is a magical dimension to his collages.
