Literature

Geoffrey Whitworth & Keith Henderson, A Book of Whimsies, published by Dent, London, 1909, illus facing p 50

An illustration to a short story by Henderson's friend Geoffrey Whitworth, Little St. Francis of Hanover Square published in A Book of Whimsies, with other stories of similar eccentricity, in 1909. A young man, a bird lover, is outraged by the 'weird, marvellous hat of strangely shimmering birds' adorning a girl he is wooing, and 'in a flash, without warning' he tears it from her and throws it out of the window. The girl leaves in a cab, to marry another.
