Alexander Munro (1825-1871)
Another bust of Josephine Butler was made by Munro probably after 1852 and before 1868, at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
'We made the acquaintance of the young sculptor, Alexander Munro, who became a frequent inmate of our home, after we left Oxford. Brought up among Scotch moors, and of humble but gifted parentage, he had much of the sweet character of a child, combined with a true artistic benius, great quickness of intellect, and a rare enthusiasm for all that was good and noble ... Munro worked in our house, not infrequently on the claly models of portrait busts he was engaged with.' (Recollections of George Butler, p 4)
