Bobby and Virginia Chapman, Debden Manor, Essex

Sergeant was educated at Faversham and then Canterbury College of Art,before entering the Royal Academy Schools in 1959. From then until 1969 he taught part-time at the Canterbury College of Art and the Dover and Folkstone Art Schools and worked to various commissions, including book jacket design, at which he excelled, and occasionally assisting his friend and fellow East-Kent-School artist John Ward.

Between 1986 and 1988, he held one-man exhibitions at the Maas Gallery, and again in 1991 after a sketching trip to Prague with the Prince of Wales.
