Provenance

JS Maas & Co. Ltd., London;

Estate of Holland Roberts Melson, Jr., New York

This drawing was part of a portfolio of pictures given to Princess Mary in February 1922 by the Royal Watercolour Society. Fellow contributors were John Singer Sargent, Sir George Clausen and Albert Goodwin. Principally a watercolourist, Bell also worked in oils and tempera, and designed stained glass windows, mosaics, and plaques throughout his career as a leading figure of the Arts and Crafts movement, and his works were often exhibited alongside Graham Robertson's own designs.
