An Allegory of Idleness
Pencil and coloured chalks; inscribed verso 'F. Sandys...Abel(?) ...Shepherd and Sheep'
16 x 10 inches
This drawing, which is neither by Frederick Sandys nor Abel (as suggested by the inscription), takes its inspiration from William Blake and George Richmond's pastoral engravings. Here, wolves and vultures descend upon a helpless flock of sheep as their shepherd dozes off.
