Additional Description
PROVENANCE: Sir Harry Veitch, left to Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery, Exeter, de-acquisitioned and sold Christie's, Oct. 1954 lot 70 From the mid 1880s Fildes completely changed his style from conventional Academic process to direct painting, drawing with the brush and working out of doors, after meeting Sargent and visiting his studio in Venice. As his son put it: 'he had abandoned himself to a new method, an experiment in pure colour and technique'. His oil studies of Venetian girls are spontaneous and lively.
