Additional Description
There is a facial resemblance of the sitter of this late portrait of a society woman to Xenia, Countess of Lathom, who had sat to McEvoy before. The orphan daughter of a Russian nobleman who died in WWI, she was a woman of great beauty with a penchant for smoking cigars, who wrote a book on Monet and another on French painting (with PG Konody). McEvoy's loose and ethereal manner of painting is well suited to the sitter.
