Additional Description
EXHIBITED: Royal Academy, 1862, no. 215 A sailor in his youth, Charles Parsons Knight began his artistic career by painting ships in Bristol Harbour, later studying at the Bristol Academy. This picture, exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1862, is of Knight’s pretty garden in the fishing village of Solva, looking out over St. Bride’s Bay in North Pembrokeshire. The masts of boats in the harbour rise above the roofs of the cottages. The stooks of straw to the left cover beehives.
